The Customs Service announces it in a press release, reports Știri.md.

According to the quoted source, in the first six months of 2022 there is a 55% decrease in the import of cigarettes.

"If we do an analysis for the last 5 years in terms of the import of cigarettes, we can see that in 6 months of 2018 and 2019 approximately similar quantities were imported, in the same period of 2020 the import increases by about 61%, and in 2021 there is a decrease of 49% and the downward trend is maintained in 2022 with 13.4%", mentions the Customs Service.

According to the quoted source, due to the decrease in the quantitative import of cigarettes, the Republic of Moldova is recording losses in terms of receipts to the state budget.

"For the first 6 months of 2021 and the similar period of 2022, we note that more than 151 million lei less were collected from the state budget in 2022, due to the decrease in cigarette import volumes," the source said.
